THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILLETT, WISCONSIN, DO ORDAIN that Chapter XIII, HOUSING AND FAIR HOUSING, is hereby amended to add the following sub-section:

Chapter XIII HOUSING AND FAIR HOUSING

Section 13-101                              House numbering system established.

  1. The official house numbering system for the City now on file
    in the office of the City Clerk which assigns a number for each house, building and parcel of land within the City is hereby adopted by reference. The Clerk is directed to establish and place on file a number for each parcel in new subdivisions or for a new house, building or parcel.
  2. Each property owner shall affix to his or her house, or other
    building having a street address evidence of his or her official number where it shall be plainly visible from the street. The official number shall be placed in a position to be on or near the door or on the side of the house/building that is nearest the roadway. Said numbering shall be a minimum of three (3) inches in size and shall be a color which is contrasting to the color of the house.
  3. If the property owner fails to comply with this section within
    ten (10) days after notice by the City, the City shall cause same to be affixed and shall charge the cost thereof to the benefited property, to be collected as other special charges when taxes are collected.
  4. The office of the City Clerk, with approval of Planning
    Committee, is hereby authorized to re-number areas within the City of Gillett in order to ensure an orderly design and layout for the benefit of safety purposes.
  5. The office of the City Clerk, with approval of Planning
    Committee, is also hereby authorized to re-number areas within the City of Gillett to coincide with numbering system done by Oconto County.
  6. The office of the City Clerk is hereby required to notify the
    State of Wisconsin Government Accountability Board (Elections Division) of any changes in the numbering system to avoid issues with the voter registration system.
  7. The office of the City Clerk is hereby required to also notify
    the United States Census Bureau of any re-numbering to prevent issues with any future census count.

This Ordinance shall take effect upon passage and publication provided

by law.
